ABSTRACT
Young people – even in many established democracies – participate in elections relatively less often than representatives of older age cohorts. Such a pattern well described the mobilization patterns of young Polish voters (18–29 years old) in the third decade of democratization, but it loses its explanatory power in the period from 2020 (presidential elections) to 2023 (parliamentary elections). During this period, they significantly narrowed the gap in turnout with the group of 30 year olds and also gained a certain advantage over the group of the oldest voters (60 years and older). The article organizes theoretical findings on the determinants of electoral activity and provides a precise description of the characteristics of the ‘typical’ and ‘atypical’ mobilization patterns of young voters in Poland in the years 2014–2024.
