ABSTRACT
This article analyses the impact of the Europeanisation of Islam on the political
culture of young Muslims in EU countries, focusing on their civic activism and sociopolitical
integration. The main hypothesis is that the process of Europeanisation of Islam
promotes the adaptation of democratic values, although its dynamics vary depending on
integration policies and the level of social acceptance. In order to verify this hypothesis,
the following research questions were posed: (1) How does the process of Europeanisation
of Islam affect the political identity of young Muslims in the EU? (2) What are the main
barriers and catalysts for the Europeanisation of Islam in the political context? (3) What
models of socio-political integration of young Muslims can be observed in different EU
Member States? The study is based on an analysis of the literature and empirical data,
including both quantitative and qualitative research as well as case studies in selected EU
countries, which has captured differences in integration models. The results indicate that
the Europeanisation of Islam to some extent leads to the formation of a hybrid identity
for young Muslims, combining Islamic heritage with democratic values.
