STRESZCZENIE
Artykuł analizuje związki między spuścizną antyfederalistów a populizmem
w amerykańskiej tradycji politycznej. Kluczowe elementy myśli antyfederalistycznej, takie
jak nieufność wobec władzy centralnej, podejrzliwość względem elit i pochwała „prostego
człowieka”, znajdują odzwierciedlenie w retoryce i działaniach ruchów populistycznych.
Głęboko zakorzenione w amerykańskiej kulturze politycznej antyfederalistyczne sentymenty
przyczyniają się do normalizacji populizmu w USA. Z tego powodu, populizm – mimo
potencjalnych zagrożeń – często odgrywa ważną rolę korekcyjną, a zarazem przyczynia
się do okresowej re-afirmacji politycznego kredo Ameryki.
