ABSTRACT
Presented article examines the sustainable urban mobility system in
Stockholm, a city that ranks among the world’s top cities in mobility rankings. The aim
of this article is to examine the factors that have contributed to the city’s success in
building one of the best sustainable urban mobility systems in the world. It examines
how the system was built, the steps taken, the priorities and assumptions adopted, and
the mechanisms used. The second part of the article provides an analysis of Stockholm’s
sustainable urban mobility system. It examines the public transport system, tools that
reduce traffic in the city centre, such as congestion charges, parking and cycling policies,
and the digitalization of urban mobility. The most important actions in the city included
the construction of an extensive metro network and building a city based on the principle
of transit-oriented development (TOD). As a result, the foundation of the sustainable
urban mobility system is the efficient public transport, combined with car restrictions
and increasingly improved bicycle infrastructure, which is still in need of investment and
improvement.
