he purpose of this article is to analyse the impact of the therapeutic culture on
American democracy. The author argues that this culture undermines American democracy.
Its impact can be observed at the level of everyday attitudes and behaviour. Therapeutic
culture undermines people’s belief in their agency and teaches them that they are weak and
need support and assistance. The consequence of the impact of a therapeutic culture is the
kind of fatalism that Tocqueville feared. One of the most important political consequences
of the development of a therapeutic culture is the emergence of new forms of control and
social engineering.

Czasopismo naukowe «Studia Politologiczne» uzyskało dofinansowanie z Ministerstwa Edukacji i Nauki w ramach programu „Rozwój Czasopism Naukowych” (projekt numer RCN/SN/0713/2021/1). Wysokość otrzymanego dofinansowania wynosi 79 607 zł. Celem projektu jest realizacja działań zmierzających do podniesienia poziomu praktyk wydawniczych i edytorskich, zwiększenia wpływu Czasopisma na rozwój nauki oraz dalszego zwiększania prestiżu Czasopisma w międzynarodowym obiegu naukowym. Okres realizacji projektu wynosi 24 miesiące.
